Efficiency-boosting innovations help make the new MAN Truck Generation more profitable, and support the drivers through improved assistance systems such as the enhanced MAN EfficientCruise®.

We have added new functions to the GPS-based MAN EfficientCruise® cruise control. In order to optimise the truck’s fuel consumption, it continuously records the truck’s position and direction of travel. In the process, it not only considers the navigation system’s chosen route, but also responds to the infrastructure, such as roundabouts and speed limits. The system also recognises uphill and downhill gradients on the route. Adapting the use of gears and the speed of the vehicle makes the journey even more economical. Downshifts are suppressed whenever sensible. This takes the pressure off the driver, maintains traction and saves fuel.

Efficient and low in consumption? Look no further than the MAN EfficientCruise®.

Do you need to switch between accelerating and cruising? This is done automatically in the form of dynamic coasting on flat gradients. When this happens, the truck is accelerated to approx. 3 km/h above the desired speed. The gearbox then shifts to the neutral position N and the truck coasts – without any friction in the driveline – until it reaches a speed 3 km/h below the set desired speed. This setting focuses on using the most fuel-efficient engine ranges.

Suggestions for driving economically also ensure the vehicle is more profitable. If the driver chooses the “variable maximum speed” setting, they can control the speed themselves. However, MAN EfficientCruise® always calculates the most economical driving modes in the background. The driver then receives recommendations on how to drive more economically in the form of messages and symbols on the instrumentation display.

Vehicles in front? Here, too, the updated assistant plays a more active role: when ACC is active, the speed of the vehicle ahead is more heavily weighted in the calculations and actively influences the driver’s own driving style. What’s more, expanded map data helps to calculate an energy-efficient way of driving, through the function to include infrastructure. When cruise control is activated, the system then reduces the drive power in advance and depending on the situation, to minimise the fuel consumption when reducing the speed.
