MAN vs. Porsche

MAN race truck meets Porsche

A MAN race truck faces off against a Porsche – in a race that was anything but run of the mill, truck racing driver Sascha Lenz and race car driver Lance David Arnold hit the track in their very different vehicles.

Sascha Lenz from the SL Trucksport 30 team loves challenges. He regularly shows this on the racetrack when he competes in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. However, this time, he was enticed by a very unusual challenge –  Sascha and his MAN racer were invited to race against a Porsche GT3 RS (991) Gen. 1 with racing driver Lance David Arnold behind the wheel.

Sascha knew straight away that this was a challenge he wanted to take on and win. Nevertheless, he knew that he needed a good strategy to have a chance against the 500 HP and much more lightweight Porsche. His approach was to initially let the Porsche take the lead. Firstly, Sascha thought it would have been boring to lead from the beginning. Secondly, it wouldn’t have seemed credible if the truck had steamed out ahead, leaving the Porsche in its wake. Instead, the racing driver counted more on Lance David making a mistake or being intimidated by seeing the truck gaining ground in his rear-view mirror.

“As the truck gets bigger and bigger and you can’t see anything except for the front of it, it does make things a bit different,”

laughs Sascha.

Ultimately, the driver from Weißenthurm in western Germany was delighted that his plan came to fruition. This was also helped by a few small adaptations to his truck that wouldn’t have been permitted by truck racing regulations. In the end, the result is what matters. “I was so excited about this challenge. As a fighter, I believed from the outset that I could show Lance David and his Porsche what MAN trucks are all about,” says Sascha.
