Seven new MAN TGX trucks head out on the road for HVL

“We are proud to be one of the first customers!”

MAN trucks are the only trucks setting the pace at HVL Transporte GmbH. So it was only a matter of time until the company would opt to strengthen its ranks with trucks from the new MAN Truck Generation.

“It still has all the hallmarks of an MAN,” says Director Daniel Hoppenstock, sharing his first impressions of the new MAN TGX. Ever since he was able to take a close look at the new MAN TGX during the sneak preview session in October 2019, he has had his heart set on adding the new generation of lions to the MAN fleet at HVL Transporte. The technical sophistication of the new truck, the impressively implemented ergonomics of the driver’s workplace and the assistance systems have really bowled him over: “The congestion assistant is working splendidly already and makes the driver’s work a lot easier. But the turning assistant and the intelligent cruise control system, which knows the route, are also very impressive,” says Hoppenstock.

“It’s a great work place for our drivers and, of course, of real interest to me due to the significant reduction in fuel consumption.”

Seven satisfied and motivated drivers

The matter of who should take the wheel of which truck is determined by a company policy. It is of particular importance to Company Director Hoppenstock that everyone is happy with the vehicle allocation. “At our company, vehicles are assigned for a period of four years,” says Hoppenstock. “Then it is also a question of whose turn it is to get a new truck.” Hoppenstock also explains that a new model has to be matched with the appropriate driver and area of application. It is also important to remember that not every “old-timer” can be bothered getting to grips with the new technology. “You have to want to spend time learning how to drive the new truck and, for this reason, one or two drivers have found themselves higher up the pecking order.”

“It’s clear to see that MAN involved drivers in the process,” says a pleased Peter, one of seven professional drivers at HVL who were assigned a new MAN TGX. Peter has a wealth of experience with MAN trucks. “I’ve driven all of the previous models and I have to say that MAN has taken a big step in the right direction with this new vehicle.” According to Peter, the fact that MAN has put the driver at the centre of everything is readily apparent.

“Everything is more contemporary.” Professional driver Sascha is also bowled over by the new truck. He is particularly impressed by how quiet it is in the cab. He also likes the clearly arranged mirrors and the large storage compartment.

Martin is also happy with his MAN TGX: “In terms of what it feels like to drive, it is much better than the previous model, it feels completely different and the level of comfort is great too.” He is also pleased with how comfortable the mattress is, which is important for a driver who spends Sunday to Friday out on the road. “No more nightmares,” he says, laughing.

“For the most part, our vehicles are identical in terms of their equipment and features and are used for transport within Germany,” explains Daniel Hoppenstock, who has been working for HVL since 1999. “It is important to us that our employees are assigned the same material and are not penalised for taking a different route or not being on the road overnight. That might not always be the most economical approach, but it makes the drivers happier, more motivated and more loyal.”

The new lions in the yard also feature the recently revised company logo, in which the lion is a permanent fixture. Not to mention the motto of the Pattensen-based company: “Shaping the future with strength and progression.” Enough said.
