Natasja and Mario Van der Beek love being their own boss

What is better than having a truck with one driver? A truck with two drivers. With this motto in mind, Natasja and Mario Van der Beek, partners in marriage and business, have put their own transport company on the road to success.

“Mario takes the wheel on Mondays and Fridays, I drive on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays”, says Natasja Van der Beek, explaining how the wheels of their MAN TGX 18.510 keep turning. The 45-year-old has been a professional driver for 10 years. Her husband, Mario, has spent the last 30 years behind the wheel of a truck. The driving duo provide their customers with a top-class ferry transportation service to and from England: “Once I’ve used up my allotted driving time, Mario can take over,” says Natasja. What’s more, they both love being their own boss.

“Both of us like being out and about. Looking outside and taking in all the scenery we are driving through is something we both enjoy.”

From Natasja’s point of view, there are additional positive aspects to her job as a professional driver:

“I lap it up when my male colleagues watch me drive the trailer to the dock. Especially if I nail it at the first attempt,” she says, laughing. She also enjoys the “relaxed approach to working life” in the transportation industry. “It is my hope that more and more ladies will choose to become truck drivers,” she says.

It goes without saying that the dream team has a dream truck. By opting for the MAN TGX 18.510 and its compelling equipment package, the “entrepreneurs with a DAF at heart”, as Mario refers to themselves, have given their hearts to a lion for the first time. “Our truck is kitted out with various safety assistance functions. Lights flash in the side columns when a car pulls up next to the truck. We have an electric steering wheel. It is very easy to steer. When you drive over the white lines on the motorway, the truck steers back between the lines,” he says, naming a few of the benefits of their MAN TGX.

“I am really proud of how our truck looks. I love the fancy colour scheme and the lights that are fitted all around the truck,” Natasja adds.
