Driving trucks for the love of it
Trucker Alan is thrilled with everything about his MAN TGX 18.580 D38, but he particularly likes the comfort and the reliability of his new lion model. They make a particularly important contribution to ensuring that everything runs smoothly in his responsible job of transporting medicines across Europe.
He says that his biggest challenge of the day is parking the truck safely and reliably promptly at 10 pm. “Lots of people don’t understand that this is not always so easy for drivers”, says Alan. The professional driver from Slovenia is on the road all week transporting medicines across Europe – a very responsible job. On the one hand, Alan always has to ensure that he is parked “safely” and he has to pay special attention to his sensitive cargo: Medicines have to be constantly stored at the same temperature. “That means I always have to keep one eye on the refrigeration system and, of course, drive carefully and responsibly”, says the 23-year old.
“I’ve been a professional truck driver for five years and chose this job out of love. My father has been a driver for 35 years and I fell in love with the job through him.”
This love of his job is something that Alan primarily attributes to the peace and quiet he has for himself when he’s driving his truck. And of course he enjoys taking goods to people, which is the driver’s job after all. He can’t understand why the job still gets so little respect. “I don’t think people respect drivers enough. In the past year, I think we’ve seen what an important role we play”, Alan says. He’s referring to the importance of his colleagues during the Coronavirus pandemic. Apart from the special measures introduced, driving itself has not changed significantly during the pandemic. “Wearing a mask, social distancing, the ban on eating in restaurants and of course, far less traffic, which I think definitely benefits us as drivers!” He is really satisfied with his MAN TGX 18.580 D38 and if he could have anything else, he would opt for an XXL cab. Otherwise he is really impressed by the quality of the latest generation of MAN vehicles. Looking at the current MAN Truck Generation he says that “they meet all my needs!”
