Six new MAN TGLs for traditional bakery company Hamma

Six new MAN TGL 8.220 trucks distribute delightful delicacies in the form of fresh pretzels and many other baked goods from the traditional Hamma bakery in Ravensburg, Germany.

When master baker Johann F. Hamma founded his bakery in Ravensburg in 1883, the issue of transportation was probably one he gave little thought to. Everything that came out of the oven steaming hot and smelling yummy was sold right there in their own bakery store. Fast-forward 138 years and Hamma is still fully focussed on bakery, pastry and confectionery products. Nowadays, however, the company headquarters supplies goods to a total of 53 Hamma outlets in the Lake Constance region, the Ulm area and the Allgäu region. Six new MAN TGL 8.220 trucks with box bodies are now being used for this purpose.

“We supply our branches with fresh goods from Ravensburg twice a day, six days a week. We even send supplies to certain outlets on Sundays. Reliable vehicles and a well-organised, smooth-running service are a must,” explains Marc Hamma, Managing Director and great-grandson of the company founder. Having had consistently positive experiences with five 7.5-tonne MAN trucks, which have been proving their worth as part of Hamma’s fleet since 2019, as well as with a 3.5-tonne MAN TGE truck, the decision to add other MAN trucks to the fleet was not a difficult one.

The latest generation of MAN TGL 8.200 trucks stands out in terms of its payload capacity. Despite the box body design with integrated partition wall, the truck has a payload capacity of 2,670 kilograms. “Compared to the 7.5-tonne vehicles that competitors offer, MAN has a decisive advantage in terms of what we require,” says Marc Hamma.

Among other aspects, the cab in the compact CC variant makes a key contribution to the excellent payload balance of the MAN TGL. Notwithstanding this, Hamma’s drivers do not have to compromise on comfort, workplace ergonomics or ease of operation: for example, the 7.5-tonne trucks are equipped with the new multifunction steering wheel with a practical drop arm for operating the MAN TipMatic gearbox.

With the MAN Navigation Advanced media system, featuring a high-resolution 7-inch display and proven truck navigation, drivers are never likely to veer off course during their assignments. Thanks to the digital service MAN Online Traffic, up-to-date traffic information is available at all times, making it easier to avoid possible traffic jams and other hold-ups. Drivers can also integrate their smartphone into the media system, and the MAN sound system provides top-quality musical entertainment for the journey.

In addition to the EBA Emergency Brake Assist system, which is a mandatory feature in MAN vehicles, Hamma’s six new MAN TGL trucks are equipped with the MAN Video Turn Assist System (VAS) with an additional screen on the right-hand A-pillar. Especially when approaching bakery outlets in busy city centres, the system helps the driver to stay fully apprised of the situation on the co-driver’s side of the vehicle, which is difficult to see.
