South Wales transport company M&M Greene from Gorslas puts its faith in MAN for its most demanding transport tasks: the company recently unleashed a new MAN TGS 32.510 8×4 for this very purpose.

M&M Greene’s red-and-green MAN TGS is one of the first new-generation, 32-tonne 8X4 trucks to enter service in South Wales.“The MAN trucks that we already have in our fleet have proven to be robust and reliable,” explains Mike Greene, Managing Director of M&M Greene. “We have some challenging hills in this part of the world, both on tarmacked roads and in open terrain, so we need reliable and sturdy workhorses.”

The new arrival from Munich is well equipped for this: the new MAN TGS is powered by MAN’s 12.4-litre, six-cylinder, in-line D26 engine, which meets the Euro 6D standard, produces 375 kW of power (510 hp) and drives both rear axles with MAN’s 12-speed TipMatic automatic gearbox, and is based on a Wilcox Wilcosteel body. It is built entirely of Hardox 450 steel with a deck thickness of 4 mm, the sides, front wall and rear flap are 3 mm thick, and the mudguards and aprons are made of aluminium sheeting.

“It’s a great truck that is very relaxing to drive and has just the right amount of power to make my life easier. This new vehicle is a dream.”

An invitation to the driver

“Our MAN trucks are also very popular with our drivers, who appreciate the spacious interior, build quality and overall driving experience,” says Mike. That is why he is certain that the new Lion, which comes with further amenities and improvements in equipment, is even more driver-friendly and therefore more appealing. “I am very happy with it,” confirms the satisfied driver of the MAN TGS, Emyr Lewis.

Dream truck for a dream job? “There’s actually more to it than that: I’ve been passionate about being a truck driver since I was a kid and it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. It’s also a lifestyle, because I have friends who love their trucks the way I do,” Emyr says.

Maximum power on rough terrain

The new MAN TGS 32.510 is based at the M&M Greene yard in Gorslas and typically has a gross vehicle weight of 32,000 kg when out on the road. The 510 hp 8×4 chassis delivers aggregates throughout South Wales and into Central Wales and has the power to tackle the challenging terrain.

Mike adds: “We typically have our vehicles in service for seven years, so we configure them to meet our current requirements but also to meet the challenges we see our business facing in the future. In the past, MAN trucks have proved to be a very cost-effective solution, and we are confident that this will also be the case with the new MAN TGS. If the seven-year plan is to work, looking after the vehicle is obviously an important point. M&M Greene has every confidence in Emyr:

“We know Emyr will hold the vehicle in the highest regard and that it will still look as clean and impressive seven years from now,” says his boss Mike Greene, confidently.
