David and Timmy aren’t put off by ice or heights when they are in their MAN vehicles

David Dayer and Timmy Loye are on the road as professional drivers for the transport business André Bornet Fils Transports SA. This job sometimes takes them and their trucks to remote regions, such as the glacier areas of the Swiss mountains.

Rough roads and difficult terrain are all in a day’s work for David and Timmy. They work for André Bornet Fils Transports SA, mostly in the Swiss mountains. The paths up the mountains may be idyllic, but they are far from easy. That makes having the right tools for the job even more crucial. “I drive an MAN TGS 33.500 6x6x4 with 131,000 km on the clock, kitted out with a Palfinger PK 22002-EH crane, and a Goldhofer 3-axle trailer with steered axles. It’s the perfect toolkit for these difficult roads,” says David, with authority. “My MAN truck is very agile, and has a high payload. With its six driven wheels, four of which are steered, it can cope very well with even the most difficult terrain.”

They transport drills and accessories for them, construction machines and equipment, and construction and marine containers. “It’s an exciting job, and very varied,” says David.

“One day, it’s a straightforward transport run, and the next, we could be on the top of one of our mountains on the ski slopes, improving the snow cannon.”

“Working in the mountains is exciting,” agrees his colleague Timmy. “Every day is different. Whether it’s asphalt or mud, you have to rise to the challenge. We may have to put chains on our vehicles at any time of year. Almost every day, we have the chance to discover new breathtaking landscapes.”

Timmy has worked for Bornet Transport SA for three years now. Before that, he had only been a driver for half a year. He used to be a carpenter, but was not able to continue with that job because of his health. Driving, though, was familiar from his childhood. Timmy’s father drove trucks and buses for many years. As for driving his MAN TGS, he says: “What I’ve found is more than a job. It’s a passion.”

He shares this passion with his colleague David, too, who says: “Since I was a child, machines and trucks have always fascinated me. Every new generation of trucks spurs us on to discover new things and be curious.” And when they are deployed in the high Alps, there is always something new to discover. “Every day, a new and beautiful story is written; a new challenge, when you are doing your dream job, up in the beautiful mountains. That’s Switzerland,” says David. And with that, he certainly makes a journey through the Swiss Alps an exciting prospect. How wonderful that both of them can share their impressive pictures from their alpine missions with us.
