A new Lion for Ludwig

Supposed “demonstrator” turned out to be a new MAN TGX

Even after 21 years as a professional driver, you should expect the unexpected: For Ludwig Weinhammer it came in the form of a new MAN TGX Individual Lion S that took him totally by surprise.

Ludwig Weinhammer had his first opportunity to get to grips with the new MAN TGX on a test drive with his boss Martin Fellermaier. At the time, he was still sharing a truck with a colleague on a rotating shift. In the four weeks that followed, he drove a leased MAN, and then the company’s back-up truck for a while. Why are we telling you all this? Because only then does it become apparent how happy Ludwig must have been when he finally got his hands on a truck of his own – and not just any truck, but a brand new MAN TGX Individual Lion S. The whole thing was put together nicely as a surprise, and Ludwig didn’t know what hit him at first.

“My boss told me to pick up a demonstrator at Hoffmann GmbH in Erding after my tour. When I got there, my boss and a salesman were waiting there – with a set of keys ready,” the professional driver recalls.“Let’s see where this fits,” Ludwig’s boss said. As it turned out, the key belonged to an MAN TGX Individual Lion S, “which, just by chance, was already registered to our company,” Ludwig says, laughing. Up to that point, the 42-year-old hadn’t the faintest idea which truck would be waiting for him there, let alone that it could be an MAN TGX Individual Lion S.

Ludwig, who has always enjoyed driving, likes driving even more now that he can call this incredible truck his own: “I’ve clocked up almost 50,000 kilometres since then and the truck is still a lot of fun and never gives me any problems.” The top-quality equipment he has in his Lion is of particular importance to him, as he mainly drives at night and often has to deal with narrow delivery zones. And something that comes with having a special truck, which takes some getting used to but is nice nonetheless: It catches the eye, so customers and other drivers often want to talk to Ludwig about his MAN truck while he is on tour: “What it’s like to drive and if they can take a look at it,” Ludwig says. He likes showing off his MAN TGX Individual Lion S, and is well aware that with this Lion, he really is in a position to show off.
