The MAN TGX Individual Lion S has made Tobias an MAN fan

We cover no end of true MAN enthusiasts in our Trucklife Stories. But that was not the case with professional driver Tobias Fuest. Read on to find out how he nevertheless managed to catch the MAN bug.

Are people’s views always set in stone? Our conclusion: never say never. There are tales of drivers who were not overly fond of MAN vehicles and would have preferred to drive a truck made by a competitor – but then got behind the wheel of their MAN, found themselves happy and ultimately did not want to change. 32-year-old Tobias is one such story. “The phrase ‘once an MAN fan, always an MAN fan’ isn’t one I can necessarily vouch for. I was dead-set against having the new MAN, and I kicked up quite a fuss at the company I work for to try make sure I didn’t end up with one,” Tobias laughs. However, he was not expecting such an assertive response from his supervisor, a big MAN fan who did a great deal of work to change Tobias’ mind. “He told me to take a look at the new one and handed me the MAN Individual Lion S catalogue.” Tobias liked what he saw straight away. “I was so impressed by the truck’s design and what it offers by way of comfort and convenience that I immediately said I’d take it!”

Nor did anything get in the way of Tobias’ enthusiasm when he came face to face with the new truck for the first time and was allowed to take delivery of his MAN TGX Individual Lion S.

“This is as good as it gets. Everything has been done properly. I could really get used to being in this truck!”

Since then, Tobias has been enjoying his work driving for DB Blumengroßhandels GmbH & Co.KG, a company based in the far west of Germany, mainly transporting plants. Now a professional driver for 13 years, he was already fully on board with his job before MAN came along. “What I like about the job is the variety and the independence you have, the chance to get to know new places and people. And there are no words to describe how beautiful those sunrises are after driving all night long. Not many people can say that they get so much out of their work,” Tobias adds.

But there are also many challenges that wind up needing to be solved by the driver on their own 90 percent of the time. Tobias’ primary responsibility is loading and delivering plants. But he also takes care of the vehicles when they have to go to the inspection centre or workshop as well as helping out colleagues when needed. “The goal is always for our customers to enjoy the best service out there,” he explains. Tobias has a real passion for the job – and, as we have discovered, is now a true believer in his MAN TGX Individual Lion S, too.
