Every day brings a new challenge

No two days are the same for professional driver Mike Steigerwald. Instead, new challenges constantly await him and his MAN TGX 41.640, which is what he likes most about his job.

During his school years, when Mike Steigerwald used to recount tales from his summer holidays, his teacher would shake her head in disbelief. There was no chance that the young lad had been in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. She didn’t believe what he was telling her until he mentioned that he had been a passenger in his uncle’s truck.

“Even back at primary school, my dream job was to be a professional driver – and my wish was fulfilled.”

He chose an industry that would present him with unique challenges each and every day. With his MAN, he either drives an eight-axle semitrailer or a deep-bed combination with three or five axles for Hüffermann Krandienst GmbH and transports, for example, large cranes from one construction site to another or from one wind farm to another. He also helps to set up and dismantle the large machines, a task which requires a great deal of experience and which comes with time, as he says.

The transport jobs themselves have to be planned with absolute precision. The load weight, dimensions and route are always different. “Each trip presents new challenges,” says the 33-year-old. “I have to apply for a certificate of exemption for each of my transport operations, as my vehicle exceeds standard dimensions, in terms of both length and weight.” He thinks very highly of his vehicle, a MAN TGX 41.640. Just like when he chose his vocation, he’s certain that there’s just one vehicle for him. For him, the saying “once a MAN fan, always a MAN fan” holds true. “With few exceptions, I’ve been driving MAN vehicles from the very beginning, and I’m really impressed by the brand.” This is why he would be pleased to have the opportunity to drive one of the MAN vehicles from the latest MAN Truck generation soon. But since all of his other wishes have been fulfilled so far, it’s likely that he won’t have to wait too long for this.
