Ferret MacGyver and Tim on tour

Professional driver Marco has an animal companion

When Marco Zimmer goes on the road with his MAN TGX 26.460, the passenger seat is always occupied. His Jack Russel dog, Tim is there at all times and, in addition to the construction site air, he loves to smell the scent of freedom with his owner.

Marco who drives for TV Kraftverkehr has just received a new truck: The red MAN TGX 26.460 is in tip top condition, and was supplied by the MAN TopUsed Center in Cologne accompanied by Jack Russell, Tim his new companion who is originally from Romania and has found a new home at Marco’s animal shelter.

Since Tim has been with Marco, he hasn’t left his owners side. “He is my faithful companion,” says Marco about the little dog. So it’s only right that the space next to him in the driver’s cab is reserved for the little four-legged friend. The human and dog duo attract attention wherever they go – the personalised signs behind the windscreen of the MAN TGX attract additional attention: Ferret and MacGyver, both nicknames that a former colleague gave Marco. The driver from Kaltenengers knew how to cleverly counter the colleague’s attempt to make fun of Marco:

“I made the signs myself and they have become unique.”

Before things get started, Marco has to properly load his truck with precast concrete parts, which he then delivers to construction sites. While Marco stands on the ladder at a height of four meters to lift the parts on the crane’s hooks, Tim enjoys the fresh air: “He always comes outside on the construction site,” says Marco. “The freedom and flexibility to get around and more or less being your own boss,” says Marco, are the things that convinced him to get the driver’s job. “I’ve been a professional driver since 2012 and I decided to do so because I always drove with my grandfather as a child and always wanted to be a truck driver from then on,” he says. So far he has never regretted this decision, but of sometimes there are also things that he doesn’t enjoy , such as the shortage of  truck parking areas , long waiting times at customer’s premises or the unhelpful attitude of some drivers towards his professional group.

Luckily he always has Tim with him. The two not only share their everyday professional life, but of their private life as well. And with his MAN TGX, a very reliable vehicle that Marco particularly likes because of its excellent handling. It also offers enough storage space for personal items. A point that is very important to the young driver. When the working day is coming to an end and Marco has skilfully steered the 40-ton truck back out of one of the narrow residential areas through which some of the construction sites  often lead, he and Tim treat themselves to something nice to eat – cooking is one of Marco’s favorite hobbies alongside his four-legged friend. We wish them both bon appetit and a safe journey at all times.
