A steep challenge!

30 years of the Europa Truck Trial

The new season of the Europa Truck Trial starts on May 11th. This year marks the event’s 30th anniversary, and, in this special year, competitions will be run on six tracks in five countries. The various sections around the obstacle course pose challenges including stones, earth mounds, mud and boulders. All the gates on the course have to be negotiated within 15 minutes. Changing direction or touching gate posts incurs penalty points.

It’s as tough as it gets!

On the first leg, the teams will encounter demanding new terrain – a sandstone quarry in Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium.
“We can hardly wait to finally get started in our MAN TGS. Defending the title is of course our number one priority. But we are also looking forward to discovering some new courses in the new season,” says Jan Plieninger from the BFS Trucksport team.

Sorting the men from the boys

There are of course also some familiar tracks on the schedule – including in Montalieu-Vercieu, France. The annual Truck Trial weekend has long been a fixture there. Trialers and fans have been gathering at the location for the last 20 years, and its popularity is rising. Having begun 30 years ago on a small – in fact, quite minimalist – scale, Truck Trial today attracts as many as 20,000 truck sport enthusiasts at some venues. And there are lots more contestants too. A field of 60 teams will be taking up the challenge of negotiating extreme offroad tracks around the toughest of terrain this year.

In addition to Belgium and France, the circuit will also be hosting an event in Dreis-Brück in Germany in 2019. Other venues will include the Austrian capital Vienna and the first European Offroad Festival in Nova Gorica, Slovenia.

The kings of the quarries will then be crowned at the end of the season in Saalfeld, Germany.
We wish all the teams lots of luck throughout the competition and all the way to that finale.
