Trucker’s World held a prize draw among its club members to win a chance to see the new alpha lion from MAN for the first time: the MAN TGX Individual Lion S.

What makes the MAN Individual Lion so special?This and many other questions about the new MAN power lion were recently answered at the MAN Truck Forum in Munich. Observing the applicable Corona regulations, a very small circle of winners from our Trucker’s World promotion came along to meet MAN expert Pawel Lukasiewicz from the Product Marketing Truck department at MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH.

We also asked him a couple of questions about the MAN TGX Individual Lion S on behalf of those who were unable to come to the meeting in Munich:

What are the special features of the new Lion?

Pawel: Above all, the MAN TGX Individual Lion S is defined by its minimalism. It’s both similar to the other models in the series and yet completely different. It’s eye-catching and aggressive and yet has a touch of elegance and many small attributes that will be discovered gradually: the mirror caps, for example, not only have the specially developed carbon look with red colouring but also a shaded lion design on them. Something you only notice at a second glance. The truck has been consistently refined in various places, offering special elements such as three red bars on the radiator, as well as optimally tailored packages with a TV, an additional fridge or kitchen equipment to effectively improve a driver’s daily life. While no compromises at all have been made on safety. Everything to support the driver is here on board.

How did you arrive at the design for the new Lion? 

Pawel: The development of the MAN TGX Individual Lion S goes back some time and is a cooperation between product marketing of MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH, the team of MAN Individual and the MAN design team, which was also responsible for the new MAN Trucknology^® generation. That means, it comes from a “single source”. The design is based on specific attributes within the overall group, yet it speaks its own language. We have combined sportiness with elegance, safety and efficiency – without outshining our new Truck Generation. When you buy a new MAN TGX (which is not an Individual Lion S), you get an all-round, successful vehicle with an excellent level of equipment. If that’s not quite enough, you end up looking at the MAN TGX Individual Lion S. The design is modern and up-to-date and perhaps even slightly daring, but precisely that is what we are proud of. The design is identified with MAN also throughout the entire truck industry. The grey, coupled with black piano finish elements, is unique.   

Is the vehicle only available in this colour combination or also in others? 

Pawel: Admittedly, we did originally have a selected colour portfolio for the MAN TGX Individual Lion S, but to make the vehicle fit to all our customers’ and their fleet requirements, we decided against limiting the colour range. That means it can stand out as an alpha leader in any fleet.

What is your personal highlight? What are you particularly proud of?

Pawel: Actually, it is a mix of things that makes the MAN TGX Individual Lion S a highlight. Personally, I think the seats are outstanding. The position and location of the completely new generation of seats are already one highlight, together with the steering wheel adjustment, but the sporty, genuine leather/Alcantara seat covers with their design are the “icing on the cake”.

The new TGX is already driver-optimised. What more does the MAN TGX Individual Lion S provide in this respect?

Pawel: We are committed to providing the driver with optimum support in his work. I have already listed the optical highlights. But what we’re really talking about here are the safety features: for example, a turn assist (the most modern on the market) has been integrated, which helps to protect the lives of pedestrians and cyclists. Not to mention the innovative LCS, our lane change support, which has a scanning range of up to 80 metres to the rear, provides optimum support for drivers when pulling out and merging in traffic. But also the LRA, the Lane Return Assist, is included on board. MAN EfficientCruise®, our GPS cruise control is, of course, an absolute must. And there is also the new MAN EasyControl control panel in the door, which provides assistance before even getting in to the vehicle. Other assistants, such as the driving time assistant, are integrated and can be read on the full-graphic instrument cluster and the infotainment display, each measuring 12.3 inches. I could go on listing the benefits for hours, but while we’re counting them up – what really counts: come by and see for yourself – it’s definitely worth it!
