New semitrailer tractor for the Rudolf Diesel silo truck

The first version of the Rudolf Diesel silo truck from Silo Melmer was certainly considered unique. With its new semitrailer tractor, an MAN TGX 18.510, which has also been emblazoned with the semitrailer’s incomparable design, the Rudolf Diesel silo truck can now be considered a synthesis of the arts.

Ten years have now passed since Silo Melmer commissioned a truck with an airbrush design in honour of Rudolf Diesel. Back then, artist Knud Tiroch skilfully airbrushed the life story of Rudolf Diesel, the development of the diesel engine and the closely intertwined history of MAN onto the vehicle. Now the company has decided to replace the semitrailer tractor and hitch a new-generation 510 hp MAN TGX 18.510 4×2 BL SA to the eye-catching semitrailer. Visually, the new lion already has a lot going for it, with its large-capacity cab, full LED lighting, partial-leather seats and Alcoa DuraBright aluminium rims, but the crowning glory is reserved for the airbrush art, which, following the example of the semitrailer, will make the cab particularly eye-catching. Knud Tiroch, who came up with the design at the time, has received the nod once again.

“The man from Vienna is one of the top airbrush artists in Europe – anyone who has the chance to look over his shoulder while he works will quickly understand how he got this reputation.”

With his airbrush, brushes and palette-knives, he uses a technique he calls “G-Rave”. This technique makes objects appear dynamic and animated. In this way, motion is added to the story of Rudolf Diesel, which adorns the MAN TGX now that Tiroch’s artistic feat is complete. Over a number of weeks, Knud Tiroch transformed the white semitrailer tractor into a genuine airbrush masterpiece: not only did he spray a portrait of Rudolf Diesel on the vehicle, with great attention to detail he also immortalised the current engine technology on the passenger side. Direct comparison shows that the new Rudolf Diesel truck is in no way inferior to its predecessor.

Spectacular handover show

The two managing directors of Silo Melmer, Rupert and Simon Melmer, were able to see this for themselves for the first time at the ceremonial handover in February 2021. They had not seen the masterpiece before and were simply thrilled with it. As an additional surprise, Service Manager Johann Haselwanter and his team had come up with a special light and fog show with accompanying music for the unveiling of the masterpiece (in compliance with the applicable Covid-19 safety measures).

The new Rudolf Diesel truck will not be assigned a permanent driver, but is likely to become one of Silo Melmer’s most popular trucks very quickly. We wish all drivers who have the fortune to experience it an enjoyable trip in this lion-hearted work of art.
