The family-owned company H. Walton Ltd. from Old Goole in East Yorkshire has taken delivery of its first MAN of the new MAN Truck Generation. The new additions, in the traditional company livery of dark green and gold, are used throughout the business, delivering a wide range of bagged and bulk feeds, fertilisers and wood pellets to the Midlands and Scottish Borders.

As a long-time fan of the MAN brand and director of the family business, David Walton said: “When you buy a MAN, you know exactly what you’re getting: They are efficient, reliable and robust.”

The three new vehicles at the company are two 44-tonne MAN TGX semitrailer tractors, a MAN TGX 26.510 and a MAN TGX 24.510, as well as a 26-tonne MAN TGS 26.360 rigid, each individually tailored to the company’s needs. The MAN TGX 26.510 6×2 has the popular GM cab with additional satellite navigation and a refrigerator. This vehicle will primarily pull a curtainsider trailer delivering bagged goods to customers.

Each of the new vehicles is perfectly tailored to the respective field of application.

“In our business, we don’t have the luxury of one vehicle fitting all operations, so each of our new MANs offers a different solution,” says David. “Most of our delivery points are individual farms and sometimes access can be difficult. The Rigid, with its lift axle and Moffett mount, is a real asset to our business, ensuring that we deliver our feed and meals exactly where they are needed, while taking the strain off the driver. And that is a particularly important point for the entrepreneur:

“We want to ensure that we provide our drivers with a high level of comfort and safety during their working day. We think the new MAN trucks meet the high standards they need to.”

This also seems to go down well with the drivers: “The comments and feedback we have received so far show once again that we made the right choice,” says David. The boss of H. Walton Ltd. also expects a lot from the new lions in terms of effectiveness and fuel consumption: “In terms of efficiency and fuel consumption, we have already heard and seen many good things about the new generation of MAN trucks. Therefore, we are very curious to see how they will prove themselves in the course of the familiarisation and after a few kilometres of driving; so far, the first signs are very positive,” David adds.

Founded in 1972 by Hugh and Julia Walton, the company carries products nationwide from most of the UK’s major ports, including Hull, Immingham, New Holland, Liverpool and Teesport, Glasgow, Bristol, Portland, Leith, Glasson, Tilbury, Ipswich, Avonmouth and Sutton Bridge. For deliveries to more distant areas, the company uses the services of forwarding agents whom the company has trusted for a long time.

“The new MAN vehicles will help the company to meet the increased demand for deliveries and ensure that we continue to meet our customers’ expectations,” says company boss David Walton, looking to the future with confidence with his new MAN lions in the fleet.
