A song of praise for the new MAN TGX generation

At T Christie & Son Transport Ltd., the new 'lions' are riding high

Milton Keynes-based family business T Christie & Son Transport Ltd. is so impressed with its new-generation MAN TGX tractors and their efficiency that it has just taken delivery of another MAN TGX 26.510 Individual Lion S in the Nardo Grey Individual special edition.

In addition to outstanding efficiency, confidence in the English family-owned company T Christie & Son Transport Ltd. is based on the low total cost of ownership of the MAN TGX generation and a solid partnership with MAN. Father and son, Tony and Paul Christie, therefore agreed to add two more MAN TGX semitrailer tractors to their company’s fleet, in addition to the new 510 hp MAN TGX Lion S.

“As a family business, it is important for us to monitor the market and ensure that we use vehicles that guarantee efficiency. In terms of fuel consumption, the MAN vehicles are far ahead of other vehicles we have tried and operated, and as fuel is our biggest fixed cost, it was an easy decision,” says Tony Christie.

At the top of the fuel charts

Tony’s and Paul’s latest MAN TGX is powered by MAN’s Euro 6E-compliant, fuel-efficient 12.4-litre, 6-cylinder D26 engine with 510 hp. The latest generation of D26 engines has proven to be particularly maintenance-friendly and fuel-efficient, with a positive effect on the environment. Not only are these engines more efficient than their predecessors in use, they are also lighter, which in turn has a positive impact on the total cost of ownership (TCO) and the life of the vehicle.

Looking at the MAN TGXs in his company’s fleet, Paul Christie comments: “Our first new-generation MAN TGX, named “Incident on 57th Street”, went on the road in November 2020 and outperformed the rest of the fleet after just two weeks. After talking to Scott, we weren’t surprised, but we were very impressed, and it immediately prompted us to look at the total cost of ownership across the fleet.” As a result, the second new-generation MAN TGX, named “The Promised Land”, followed as early as April 2021 – an impeccable low-mileage demonstration vehicle that also quickly rose to the top of the fuel charts. The decision to order the third MAN TGX was also made quickly, and the modern ‘lions’ are also extremely well received by the drivers.

“The guys are excited to be able to drive the new MANs.”

This is also due to the first-class equipment of the vehicles, which all have the stately MAN GX cab and come in the MAN Individual Lion S design. Tony Christie, who is a big Bruce Springsteen fan, has given all the trucks in his fleet names of Springsteen songs. Accordingly, the latest vehicle is called “Youngstown” and bears the lyrics of the last verse of this song on the back of the cab.
“We wanted the new vehicle to stand out and catch the eye.” Therefore, a LightFix Big Nordic LED front bar with LightFix lamp bar was fitted in deviation from the norm – all in a black powder coating to match the black wheels. “He’s been out for a few weeks now and I don’t think a day goes by that he doesn’t get a thorough wash,” says Tony. In general, he, just like his son, is very proud of the appearance and condition of the vehicle fleet. In addition to reliably transporting electronic devices for the household, the Christie drivers make a crucial contribution here – with the careful maintenance of the special vehicles.
