I like almost everything about my job

TRUCKSTOP

Chris Müller is an enthusiastic driver and MAN lover

People like Chris, who like just about everything about their job, are hard to find. For the professional driver from Bad Münstereifel, however, his passion for the job and the vehicles really is paramount.

Chris Müller remembers being allowed to climb behind the wheel of his stepfather’s truck as early as four years old. And as a child and teenager, he had often been on tour with him for weeks at a time. “He travelled internationally and my parents even let me off school so I could join them on a tour to England, for example,” Chris says.

“It was just the greatest thing for me to see something new every day. I have never lost that passion, and it continues to this day.”

And it ultimately meant that Chris never wanted to choose any job other than in the cab of a truck. He has been driving professionally since 2012, and there’s little that bothers him. “Basically, I like almost every aspect of this job,” he says. But he especially likes the variety, because no two days are ever the same. “Even if I do the same tour twice in one day, it’s still not the same. You never know exactly what the day will bring you,” says the 35-year-old. From good to bad surprises – anything is possible. And of course, it’s not like there are too few of the latter. Starting with a lack of or overpriced rest facilities, unpleasant encounters with other road users who are often impatient, or a lack of respect towards him as a driver on the part of the customer. Chris is all the more satisfied that he has found such a good and supportive employer in Hutter Transporte and his boss. At this point, he would like to leave his boss “a big thank you for letting me live it up on the truck”.

In fact, his MAN TGX 18.510, with which he transports bulk materials of all kinds (such as pellets or glass) in tipper mode, immediately catches the eye and makes no secret of its driver’s passion for trucks. If he had his way, he would also add a lower sunblind and a stone guard. “That would give the car even more individuality,” says Chris. But the regularity with which the driver from Bad Münstereifel captures his MAN in photos and videos leaves no doubt that he’s already very enthusiastic about his ‘Lion’ vehicle even as it is now. This is true not only for the truck’s visual advantages – Chris can also get a lot from its inner qualities. He finds it particularly positive that, in the latest generation, many of the points that had previously been criticised by many drivers have been dealt with. He likes the fact that the fridge has disappeared completely under the bed and that there is more variation in the steering wheel settings. He is also a real fan of the generous amount of space in his truck, both in the front driving area and in the back for sleeping. Chris’ first tours with the MAN TGX would have been a bit awkward due to minor faults in the electrics, but he says nevertheless: “It’s been really fun to work with the vehicle, from the very first kilometre up to now.” And even when he is not on a work tour, he often spends time with his ‘Lion’. For example at truck meet-ups, where he likes to show up at weekends. And of course, so that he can take cool new shots of his MAN TGX and share them with the community.
