MAN has the standard of quality that we need

Our employees are the most important thing

For siblings Anita and Josef Scheller, the two directors of the company Scheller Mühle GmbH in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, regionality is clearly the winner – when it comes to selecting quality products (i.e. grain) for further processing, just like when selecting a vehicle for the company’s fleet.

What’s being milled here by what’s already the ninth generation in the so-called ‘art mill’ in Reisgang follows centuries of tradition and experience in the milling trade. However, this does not exclude the incorporation of the latest technology, which, if the Schellers have their way, may well have ties to the region just like the products do. Some of the best ingredients from the local regions are therefore also taken directly from the field using MAN vehicles, and transported to Scheller Mühle and to factories that process them further.

Some of the milled grain is made into ‘Mehlzauber’ directly at Scheller. The rest is brought to the processing factories as a bulk commodity. “Regionality is very important to us,” says Josef Scheller. “Only regional flour is sold as ‘Mehlzauber’. This is also very much in favour of MAN as a Bavarian manufacturer,” explains the technical director. “Our drivers obviously have a say.” But there could, of course, be even more reasons why Scheller would be glad to count on the support of MAN trucks, reveals Josef’s sister Anita: “They are great trucks that are convincing from an economic viewpoint, and they also win over many of our drivers. They come from Munich, which is also good as it means that only short distances have to be travelled.” And there may be drivers like Herbert Reinmoser, employed by Scheller, who have never allowed themselves to warm to a truck other than a MAN ‘Lion’ anyway.

“Our drivers obviously have a say,”

confirms Anita Scheller.

The Scheller drivers are allowed to try out trucks and then decide on their favourite. “MAN is my favourite,” confirms Herbert Reinmoser. “Driving is pleasant and peaceful thanks to the cruise controls.” The MAN vehicle handles very well on the narrow streets that his truck often has to drive along, and also drives easily around bends. “I just have a good driving experience,” the professional driver is happy to say, regarding the reliability of his MAN ‘Lion’ vehicle. In general, he likes it when he knows what to expect and not much changes. He also likes this when he’s working for Scheller Mühle. “The process is always the same,” he says. His workday generally begins between one and two o’clock at night. His silo team then waits for him on the company premises, generally already loaded with flour or semolina. He starts his long daily tours of between 500 and 600 kilometres from here. The 60-year-old then stops at industrial bakeries or factories, where the 26-tonne loads are unloaded via tubing and under his supervision. Before he brings the vehicle back to the company premises again, he ensures that the silo trailer is clean-swept before next being loaded, and undergoes thorough cleaning in a rinsing plant for silo transporters every two weeks. Having worked there for a long time, Herbert Reinmoser fits very well into the tradition-steeped environment of Scheller Mühle. He has already worked for the company as a driver for 26 years.

“I’ve always liked driving trucks,” recounts Reinmoser, who got his driving licence during his time in the German Armed Forces. He then started driving a truck immediately, and has not stopped since. After having initially transported gravel and dangerous goods, he finally decided to work for Scheller Mühle GmbH in 1996. He values the familiar atmosphere there, as well as the fact that he can approach his boss at any time.
