Markus is familiar with many aspects of the driver’s job

Professional driver Markus Wortmann is on the road around the church tower with his MAN tipping semitrailer for Albers Transporte. You can find out in his Truck Life Story why he has never stopped enjoying his job, even if there have long since been some aspects he no longer likes about it.

Markus Wortmann was already able to get to know the driver’s profession through his father, who himself was a professional driver. He initially chose a different career path and trained as a sawmill worker. A lot of time has passed since then and Markus has long since stopped doing the job he learned at the time, which now goes by the name of wood processing mechanic. In fact, he also took his place behind the wheel of a truck in 1991 and has literally not changed since then. “I tried out many variants of the driver’s job,” he says. “In the first few years you were really your own boss” – but those times are now long gone, he says.

Telematics and mobile phones are not entirely innocent in this regard, and Markus reveals that he does not always enjoy it. The lack of respect for his professional group in society also greatly disappoints the experienced driver. However, there are still a few small things for him that have not changed. “That’s exactly why I still like doing my job today,” says the 58-year-old.

“Around the church tower” is his regular tour, which he drives on behalf of Albers Transporte in his MAN TGX 18.510 Hydrodrive with tipping semitrailer in the summer months, transporting construction materials from a quarry. 400 kilometres a day! “In winter, a moving floor comes behind the tractor unit, and that also means occasional overnight stays,” says Markus. “But I’m happy every time I can drive around the church tower again.” Because he likes to face up to the daily challenges of his job, he particularly loves narrow construction sites and tipping locations – “Everyone can do it if it is easy,” laughs the driver from Lennestadt. He is very satisfied with his current vehicle, a MAN TGX. “It’s all a matter of habit,” he says.

“I’ve been driving MAN most of the time over all these years. Every manufacturer has something going for it, but I personally feel most at home in a MAN.”
