The MAN TGS 41.510 from Lühmann takes truck driving to a new level

In this MAN, driving almost takes second place. The Lion with special equipment driven by steel construction engineer Marvin Brechlin for the company Lühmann Stahl- und Maschinenbau impresses not only with its all-wheel drive system, but also with its great flexibility and the enormous lifting power of its crane body.

For example, an existing 45-metre-long and 50-tonne traffic sign gantry is dismantled and transported for scrapping. At the same time, a new gantry section is delivered, assembled and equipped with new traffic signs with the help of special transports. This is then lifted on to the existing supports and secured in position – an order that the team from Lühmann Stahl- und Maschinenbau completed in front of the Elbtunnel on the A7 motorway on just one day. Also involved were Marvin, a professional truck driver and steel construction engineer, and his MAN TGS 41.510 with a special crane body from Palfinger. As soon as the two have reached the location of the respective mission, driving moves into the background. Instead, it’s about steel construction engineer Marvin successfully completing the varied and versatile tasks together with the MAN crane vehicle. “In my job, the features of my vehicle as a crane are the main focus for me,” says Marvin when explaining why he particularly likes his job. This job also includes driving the MAN to and from the place of use,

but the focus is on the skills of the Lion as a handy tool for new construction projects. Steel engineer Marvin relies on the reliability, versatility and enormous lifting power of his truck. “My MAN has a host of outstanding features,” reveals Marvin, who owes most of the modifications to the expert team at Toni Maurer: On the original MAN TGS 41.510 BB 8×8, the last axle was placed in the position of the third axle, and all propshafts and the drive flanges were adapted. In addition, all wheelbases were modified according to customer requirements and all air lines for the brake system redesigned.

“We use the vehicle for almost all our construction projects,” says Marvin. Thanks to the all-wheel drive system, it doesn’t matter whether you are working on firm ground or on more difficult terrain. It is important to have a professional behind the wheel of the truck according to Sebastian Neumann, Managing Director at Lühmann Stahl- und Maschinenbau: “The particular challenge for our fitters is to be a good truck driver and at the same time offer the well-honed craftsmanship of a steel construction engineer. The local conditions are often difficult and cramped, which means that a lot of driving skills are required in addition to the actual job.”

“We usually move the truck as a combination with a tandem trailer on which we can either transport material, a container or work platforms,” says Marvin when describing his everyday work. For example, almost all orders are special applications that require the highest level of reliability and flexibility from both people and machines.

“Our employees are the greatest asset,”

says Sebastian Neumann, who greatly appreciates the commitment of all employees at Lühmann. Marvin also receives a lot of attention from others: “I have to laugh every time we drive the vehicle to a construction site for the first time and people are delighted like children when they see it and take photos with their mobile phones.”
