Yusuf has been on the road as a truck driver for 20 years, during which time he has clearly found his favourite vehicle: He cannot find fault with his red MAN TGX 18.470; for Yusuf it is his pride and joy. Boasting the latest technology, a stylish driver’s compartment and a host of comfort and convenience features, the truck has absolutely everything. And, as Yusuf makes clear, he does not see that many new vehicles in his home country, Turkey. His MAN puts in the hard work for Yusuf. The truck needs to be more than just stylish, it needs to be tough too: Yusuf mainly drives over rough terrain and rough roads leading to coal mines. He and his MAN truck transport the coal he collects to power plants where the raw material is processed.
“I appreciate the comfort and durability of my MAN,”
says Yusuf. “Our work requires us to travel many kilometres and work in tough conditions,” he continues as describes the demands placed on him and his colleagues. Yusuf himself has covered 500,000 kilometres in two years. He always brings some essential on this trips: two chairs and a kettle, which he uses to make tea for breaks. The truck driver usually travels alone, but his family does also join him on occasion. However, he does not feel like he is missing out on connections either way: He is constantly meeting other drivers who notice his smart and stylish MAN and want to take a peek inside the cab. His participation in MAN Truck Champion has also played a role in his popularity: “I was not that well known before the competition, but am now often approached by other drivers on the road and asked about the strengths and weaknesses of my truck,” adds Yusuf, who emerged, with his MAN, as the national winner from the competition for the most beautiful truck. To achieve this, he put so much care and attention into the red MAN to impress across the board
A trip to Germany…finally
Unfortunately, Yusuf was unable to visit Germany for the award ceremony as part of the MAN Truck Champion in 2023. And is all the happier that he now has a new opportunity: He has won an MAN ProfiDrive off-road training course in Langenaltheim and cannot wait for his trip to Germany.
Yusuf’s future objective is that one day he can drive in his very own MAN. “The MAN trucks are outstanding, economical and powerful,” is Yusuf’s response when asked why he will continue to favour MAN.
