Taking in 25,000 kilometres across the USA

TRUCKSTOP

Wiebke and Knut are embarking on a huge adventure in their MAN.

The mobile home/truck reached the port of Baltimore America’s east coast by freight ship. In contrast, Wiebke and Knut Harms enjoyed a comfortable flight to the United States. For the next seven months, the two camping enthusiasts will be driving their truck through the USA, Canada and Mexico. They tell us all about their meticulous preparations for their big trucking adventure.

And the “Bratwurst Bandits” are off! This is what the two motorhome bloggers call themselves on their adventure around the US. Trucker’s World regularly posts on Facebook and Instagram about Wiebke and Knut’s latest exploits. Take a look and follow the highlights of their travels. You can also follow them on their 1raumwohnung Instagram channel.

The couple from Oldenburg couple have been planning and organising their trip to North America with their motorhome truck for one year. “Our children have now all left home, and it’s the right time to have a new adventure,” says Wiebke. The two made the decision to embark on their unusual tour over an evening glass of wine. “We have both visited the USA several times and fell in love with the country and people,” adds Knut.

“Trucking through America – footloose and fancy-free. That’s just crazy!”

The vehicle is an MAN TGL 8.180 with insulated box body. Wiebke and Knut bought the former flower truck in 2015, converting it into their dream motorhome with a great deal of love and effort. It features a master bedroom, kitchen, seating area and bathroom. The trip to the USA is taking place partly in high summer, so the couple also added an air-conditioning system, a mini washing machine and a power generator.

As there is no service network for MAN vehicles in the USA, the truck underwent a comprehensive inspection in Germany. All plant equipment has been replaced. Hopefully they are all set for a smooth-running roadtrip for the next seven months.

Pitching up and staying wherever you like

Wiebke and Knut have drawn up a route taking them from the Atlantic to the Pacific and back. The route’s many highlights include the Niagara Falls, Death Valley in California, the historic Route 66 and many other special places. The campers don’t plan in advance where to stay but decide on the spot. Knut’s employer – a vocational school – granted him a sabbatical so that he could take this trip. Wiebke is a self-employed traditional Chinese medicine therapist and was able to take time off herself.

The two are looking forward to everything that lies ahead. “However, I’m sure there will come a time when I’m happy to return home. I will definitely miss our children,” Wiebke says. Trucker’s World is crossing its fingers for the couple and their MAN and wishing them a fantastic and safe trip!
